This infant was rescued from an air force officer servicing with the Ukrainian Aviation Unit attached to the United Nations Peace Keeping Mission in Sierra Leone. Despite several attempts by the wildlife authorities, the officer refused to surrender the chimp.

After much trouble, including negotiations with the United Nations headquarters in New York, Kouze was finally rescued in 2005 and now lives happily in a group of 9 toddlers...
